Background
UKRRIN is evolving.
Over the last eight years, the UK Rail Research and Innovation Network (UKRRIN) has established itself as a powerful collaboration between academia and industry. It provides vital contribution to the advancement of rail research and innovation.
However, the rail industry has changed radically since UKRRIN was established in 2018. It continues to change with the creation of Great British Railways. This presents opportunities for UKRRIN to deliver more value and for a more coordinated approach to research, development and innovation.
RSSB and Network Rail are paving the way for improved trilateral arrangements between academia, public organisations in the rail industry, and the private sector by trialling new arrangements for a UKRRIN network.
UKRRIN, RSSB and Network Rail have therefore now launched a new pilot to stimulate a mix of new tactical and strategic research in these topic areas:
- Vehicle / track
- Electric traction power
- Telecoms and positioning
Interested academic and industrial partners, both new and existing, are invited to engage with the UKRRIN² Pilot. New funders are also welcomed to explore opportunities to collaborate on new research.
